Kadale Kaalu Usli or kabul Kadale Sundal is a simple, easy, heathy snack. Usually kadae kaalu usli is prepared with black chana. But you can also make usli or sundal with kabul chana or chickpea. Mainly, usli is a spicy snack, usually serve during poojas and ceremonies. Especially this kadle kalu usli is served as a prasadam, during Ganesh Chathurti, Naga Chouti, Navaratri and Varamahalaksmi pooja.
For making this chickpeas sundal or usli, most importantly chickpea needs to be soak overnight for 8 to 10 hours. Then drain out the water and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles. After that, make a coarse paste of coconut and green chilli, with out adding water. Heat a pan and add oil and seasonings. Then add blended paste and boiled chickpea, salt. Mix everything well and finally add lemon juice and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Easy to make and tastes amazing.
Furthermore this is spicy dish can be served as a healthy snack or accompaniment. Also in most of the temples, after the pooja they used to give the kadale kaalu usli as a prasadam. Chickpeas are good for health and they taste good when prepared with proper ingredients. Even more chickpeas are high in protein, with lots of fiber and low in fat content which helps in weight loss. First of all, take a small blender and grated coconut, green chilli.
Blend this mixture to a coarse paste with out adding water. Keep this aside.
Meanwhile Heat a pan on moderate flame and add coconut oil. You can use any oil, but I prefer coconut oil.
Once the oil is hot enough, add the seasonings like, mustard, cumin and hing.
Sauté well until it splutters. Then add coarse blended mixture .
Sauté for a min or two. Then add boiled kabul kadle.
Add little salt, sugar(optional) and again give a good mix. Turn off the heat.
Finally add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well.
Now the healthy, tasty Kadle Kalu Usli is ready to enjoy.
