How to eat makhana for weight loss? Here is a Makhana kheer recipe or Phool makhana recipe as a delicious dessert with No added sugar.
Makhana kheer is a simple, quick, healthy dessert. It is one of the traditional sweet & ideal sweet recipe for festivals, as well as fasting recipe. Usually makhana kheer can be made during navaratri fasting or any vrat fasting. Most importantly, makhana is extremely good source of manganese, potassium, megnesium. It also contains proteins and low in fat content. Its a very light weight seed. These seeds can be consumed in raw or cooked depending on your taste. Mainly these makhana seeds have no taste.
Further more makhana is known by many names. Lotus Seeds, Fox Nut, Euryale Ferox, Gorgon Nut etc. Makhana kheer is an instant sweet recipe. when we have a sudden sugar craving, this makhana kheer is one best option. More over it is a diabetic friendly kheer. Because I have not added sugar. Rather than sugar, I have added another super food dates. This gives the natural sweetness. Also cardamom & nutmeg powder, makes the kheer refreshing. At the end while serving the kheer, add roasted makhana. This gives a nice crunch while having the kheer.
As we know Makhana or Fox nut is low in calorie, gluten free, protein rich. Thus they are known to help lose weight. If eaten in right quantity and right manner, makhanas definitely stimulate your weight loss journey.
You can consume makhana in this form, that is kheer form. But with a slight change. Replace dairy milk with plant based milk like coconut milk, almond milk or oats milk. Also you can consume makhana snack as a mid day snack to lose weight.

Here is the healthy makhana kheer with step by step photos and a detailed video.
Firstly take a mixing bowl and add 1 cup makhana. Then add 1/2 cup milk and soak for 10 mins.
Next take a small blender and add chopped pitted dates. Blend the dates to a coarse paste.
Then add soaked makhana and milk to the blender and blend to a smooth, fine paste. Keep this aside.
Meanwhile heat a thick bottomed pan and add ghee. Once the ghee is melted up, add remaining makhana and roast for 2 to 3 mins.
Take out the roasted makhana and keep it for garnishing.
Now to the same pan add 1 cup of milk. Stir the milk occasionally so that it does not scorch from bottom.
Bring the milk to a boil for 2 to 3 mins and then add blended makhana dates mixture.
Mix it well and boil for 2 to 3 mins.
Similarly add chopped dry fruits like, cashews, almonds and pistachios.
Give a good mix and boil for 3 to 4 mins until the mixture thickens a bit.
At this time add ghee and stir very well. Simmer for a minute.
Next add cardamom powder and mix very well. Turn off the heat and finally add nutmeg powder. Give a quick mix.
Now the healthy, tasty makhana kheer is ready. Garnish the kheer with roasted makhana and chopped pistachios.
Serve makhane ki kheer hot or warm or chilled. The kheer consistency thickens a bit, after chilling.
