Can you eat a banana peel? Is a banana peel edible? definitely banana peel is edible to eat. Here is a raw banana recipe, as raw banana peel stir fry or Balekai sippe palya.

Every part of banana are highly nutritious, including from banana stem to banana peel. Banana stem juice is extremely helpful in kidney stones, where as banana flower is a superfood for women’s.

Further, these raw bananas are also called as “green plantains” has amazing benefits. It is used as a vegetable in India for making many recipes. In North India raw banana is used for making koftas, curries, kebabs and pakoras. Whereas in South India it is used for making chips, dry fry, stir fry or palya.

You can steam, boil, stir – fry, deep – fry, smash and curried, and is also be used as a stuffing, in salads or to make traditional dips.

Banana peel stir fry is one of the simple and healthy South Indian recipe. The making of this recipe is similar to usually how we do other vegetable stir fry. It’s a perfect side dish with hot rice , chapati , Roti and dosa also.

Raw Banana Peel Dry Fry is one of the simple and healthy South Indian recipe. Easy to make and tasty too. It’s a perfect side dish with hot rice , chapathis , Rotis and dosa also. Raw banana fry can be made in so many ways and everyone will do that, but I hope no one will try raw banana peel dry fry. Here is the raw banana peel dry fry or balekayi sippe palya. Just follow the instructions.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ Raw Banana (Plantains) steamed
  • ¼ cup Onion finely chopped
  • ¼ cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Channa Dal
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ tsp Hing (Asafoetida)
  • 1 to 2 Green Chilli as per taste
  • 3 to 5 Curry Leaves
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Jaggery as per taste
  • ½ tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Coriander Leaves finely chopped

Instructions

Method to steam cook Raw banana

  • Firstly, take the raw banana , remove the upper and lower part of the raw banana and cut it in the middle so that in one banana you will get two pieces
  • Now put this banana in a steaming vessel
  • Add water in rice cooker and place this vessel and cover the lid
  • Steam cook for 20 mins until the raw bananas are perfectly cooked. (or you can use pressure cooker for cooking raw banana , around 4 to 5 whistles)
  • Once the bananas cooked well , Remove the lid and cool down the steamed banana for 5 mins

Method for making banana peel dry fry

  • Remove the banana peel
  • Now finely chop this steamed banana peel and keep it aside
  • Heat a pan and add coconut oil
  • Once oil gets heated , add mustard , cumin, channa dal, urad dal, turmeric powder, hing, curry leaves and slit green chilli
  • Saute well until the above ingredients are golden brown
  • Add chopped onion
  • Saute well for 2 to 3 mins until onions are translucent
  • Now add chopped banana peel, salt and jaggery
  • Saute well for 2 mins
  • Also add grated coconut and lemon juice
  • Mix well
  • Finely garnish with chopped coriander leaves
  • Mix well and enjoy banana peel dry fry with hot rice, or chapathi, roti & dosa also

Method to steam cook Raw banana
