Raw mango rasam is an instant rasam recipe and also a rasam without rasam powder. This recipe of raw mango is super delicious and healthy.

Raw mango rasam  is a quick, refreshing, easiest rasam recipe with very few ingredients.  Basically it is a spicy, tangy and slightly sweetish rasam made from raw mangoes.

In coastal Karnataka region of Udupi & Malnad, this raw mango rasam is a common recipe during summer season. They will call it as “Appekayi saaru”or “Appe Huli”. Definitely raw mango rasam is a delicious rasam which activates the taste buds & cleanse your tongue. And also no doubt, it is a finger licking recipe.

Further the process of making this rasam is so simple & anybody can make it easily. It is an instant rasam without dal (lentils) & without rasam powder. This amazing rasam is usually served as a side dish with hot plain rice with a spoonful ghee or coconut oil. However drink it as a soup before meal or for digestion after the meal. Most importantly, raw mangoes contains an acid which helps to ease digestion & control constipation.

Even more raw mango is one of the healthiest fruit you can try out in the beginning of summer. Raw mangoes are a lot better than the ripe ones. Also raw mangoes help in weight loss, while the ripe one contains a lot of calories. Moreover raw mangoes are loaded with healthy nutrients. They are rich in Vitamin A and C, calcium, iron. Also highly rich in magnesium which is vital for the extraction of wastes in the body.

Apart from being tasty, mangoes also offer a number of health benefits. Mangoes can refresh the mind & make you feel happy.

Raw mango rasam is an easiest healthy rasam recipe with very few ingredients. It is a spicy, tangy and delicious rasam and can be done with in 10 mins. This tasty rasam can be served with hot plain rice or as a beverage.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup water
  • ½ cup raw mango chopped
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1 tsp jaggery
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped

For tempering:

  • 1 tsp ghee
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp hing (asafoetida)
  • 4 to 5 curry leaves

Instructions

  • Firstly heat a pan on moderate flame and add water and little salt.
  • Then add chopped raw mango cubes and cover the lid.
  • Bring this to a boil for 2 to 3 mins and turn off the heat.
  • Now strain the boiled mango cubes and keep the water for further use.
  • Transfer the boiled mango cubes to a blender.
  • Additionally add cumin and green chilli.
  • Now blend this mixture to a fine paste and keep it aside.
  • Meanwhile heat another pan and add the blended paste.
  • Further add the remaining water used for boiling mango( stock).
  • Next add water additionally if needed.
  • Give a good mix and bring this to a boil for 2 to 3 mins.
  • Similarly add salt and jaggery.
  • Give a good mix and again boil for one more minute.
  • Turn off the heat and finally add chopped coriander leaves. Keep this aside.
  • Now take a tempering pan and add ghee.
  • Once the ghee is melts, add mustard, cumin, hing and curry leaves.
  • Saute well until splutters and turn off the heat.
  • Add this tempering to the prepared mango rasam and mix well.
  • Now the tasty Raw Mango Rasam is ready to serve!
  • Enjoy this rasam with hot plain rice with a spoonful of ghee or as a soup for drinking.
