Ingredients

  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • 1 red chilli
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp hing
  • 5 curry leaves
  • ¼ cup onion
  • ¼ cup tomato
  • 1 cup moringa leaves
  • 1 cup moong dal cooked
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp jaggery
  • ¼ tsp monkey jack powder (vate huli powder)

Instructions

  • Firstly, take a blender jar and add chana dal, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, grated coconut and red chili with little water
  • Blend this to a smooth paste and keep it aside
  • Meantime, heat a pan on moderate flame and add coconut oil
  • Once the oil is hot enough, add mustard seeds, cumin, turmeric powder, hing and curry leaves
  • Sauté for a min until mustard and cumin seeds splutters
  • Next add finely chopped onion and tomatoes, sauté well until tomatoes are mushy
  • Likewise add moringa leaves and again sauté it until the leaves wilted
  • Then add cooked moong dal and blended paste
  • Along with, add salt, jaggery and monkey jack powder
  • Mix everything well and bring to boil for 2 to 3 mins, turn off heat
  • Finally, nutritious side dish murugai keerai kootu is ready to serve!
