This Dal palak is very simple and easy recipe. It is one of the most healthy Dal recipe can be done in very short amount of time. It is a wholesome and packed with protein and fiber. Dal is a generic term used in India to describe all dry legumes/lentils. It’s a complete food and a good source of protein. It’s a healthy meal can be done in 30 mins and it is gluten free.
Here we have prepared the Dabha version of Dal palak or Spinach Dal recipe. Dal palak is nothing but dal temperd with palak tadka. First preparing the tadka/tempering of onion , garlic , ginger , tomatoes , and palak(spinach) , then adding dal to it. It is made in almost all regions of India with a slight variations. This simple protein rich dish is served with plain rice , chapati/roti or different kinds of bhakri.
Dal palak tastes best when made with basic ingredients otherwise the buttery taste and flavor of palak is lost. Tempering it in desi ghee or butter enhances the flavor and aroma of the dish.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Toor dal cooked
- 1 cup palak (spinach) finely chopped
- 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
- 1/4 cup tomato finely chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger chopped
- 1 tbsp garlic chopped
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp hing (asafoetida)
Instructions
- In a heating pan add ghee and let it melts
- Add cumin and fennel seeds
- Saute well until it splutters
- Now add chopped ginger and garlic
- Saute well for 2 mins
- Also add finely chopped onion
- Saute well until onions are translucent
- Now add chopped tomatoes
- Again saute well for 2 to 3 mins
- Also add hing and turmeric powder
- Mix well properly
- Now add chopped palak (spinach) and salt
- mix well until palak gets cooked
- At this time add cooked toor dal
- Mix well properly
- Now add red chilli powder and sugar
- Again mix well and bring to a boil for 3 to 4 mins
- Turn off the heat and add lemon juice and 1 tsp of ghee
- Mix well and the dabha style dal palak is ready to serve
