Raw banana raita is an another simple and healthy recipe of South India. Basically, raita is made from steamed raw banana, curd, coconut and tadka. Certainly, it is a quick , easy recipe.

Further, Raw banana raita or balekayi sasive is a curd based recipe and a perfect side dish with hot steamed rice. Certainly, it is easy to make and tastes delicious. Also, these kind of curd recipes are soothing and comfort food for hot summer season and also they are highly nutritious.

Usually, this type of curd based recipes are must recipe for daily lunch in Udupi, Malnad region of Karnataka. Because it is loaded with essential nutrients and probiotic curd, which keeps the body healthy and cool. Also it keeps the body hydrated and according to Ayurveda it balances pitta dosha.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ Raw Banana steamed
  • 1 cup Yogurt or Butter Milk
  • ¼ cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Coriander Leaves chopped

For Tempering

  • 1 tsp Coconut Oil
  • ½ tsp Mustard
  • ½ tsp Cumin
  • ½ tsp Urad Dal
  • ½ tsp Hing (Asafoetida)
  • 3 to 5 Curry Leaves

Instructions

Method to steam cook Raw banana

  • Firstly, take the raw banana , remove the upper and lower part of the raw banana and cut it in the middle so that in one banana you will get two pieces
  • Now put this banana in a steaming vessel
  • Add water in rice cooker and place this vessel and cover the lid
  • Steam cook for 20 mins until the raw bananas are perfectly cooked. (or you can use pressure cooker for cooking raw banana , around 4 to 5 whistles)
  • Once the bananas cooked well , Remove the lid and cool down the steamed banana for 5 mins
  • Remove the banana peel

Making Raita

  • Take a bowl and add steamed raw banana and mash it perfectly
  • Add curd or butter milk
  • Now add grated coconut
  • Also add chopped coriander leaves and salt
  • Mix well properly
  • Add butter milk or curd if the raita consistency is too thick
  • Now prepare tempering and add tempering to banana raita

To prepare tempering

  • In a pan add coconut oil, mustard, cumin, hing, urad dal and curry leaves
  • Saute well until it splutters

Method to steam cook

  1. Firstly, take the plantains , remove the upper and lower part of the raw banana and cut it in the middle so that in one banana you will get two pieces
