Basically methi dal fry is similar to the other dal fry recipes which we usually made on daily meals, only the difference is adding fresh methi leaves for tempering.

Ingredients
- 1 cup cooked toor dal
- 1 tbsp ghee
- ½ tsp cumin
- green chilli as per spice level
- 1 tsp ginger finely chopped
- 1 tbsp garlic finely chopped
- ½ tsp hing (asafoetida)
- ¼ cup onion finely chopped
- ¼ cup tomato finely chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp red chilli powder
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ cup methi leaves washed & chopped
- ¼ tsp sugar optional
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
Preparation for making methi dal:
- In a pressure cooker, add ½ cup of washed toor dal and 1.5 cup of water, little turmeric powder, salt and a drop of oil.
- Cover the cooker lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Once the steam settle down, carefully open the lid and keep this aside.
How To MAke Methi Dal:
- Heat a pan on moderate flame and add ghee.
- As the ghee is melted, add cumin, green chilli, chopped ginger, hing and garlic.
- Saute well for 2 mins until the raw smell is gone.
- Next add finely chopped onion and again saute it for a min or two.
- Further add chopped tomatoes and fry it until tomatoes are soft.
- Also add salt, red chilli powder and turmeric powder.
- Saute again until tomatoes are mushy.
- Then add washed & chopped methi/fenugreek leaves and stir well for 2 mins.
- Similarly add cooked toor dal and give a good mix.
- Bring this to a boil for 2 to 3 mins.
- Further add garam masala and mix well.
- Again bring to boil for 2 mins. turn off the heat.
- Finally add lemon juice and give a final mix.
- Now the healthy & tasty methi dal is ready to serve!
- Enjoy this with hot plain rice with a spoonful of ghee.
